Each year dozens of Grand Rapids Rotary members volunteer their time to the Heart of West Michigan United Way’s Schools of Hope program. This program works in conjunction with 15 Grand Rapids Public Schools to tutor elementary students in grades one through three. Our tutors spend 30 minutes each week with the same child during the school year. Schools of Hope schools provide all the materials for tutors so advance preparation is not needed. Coordinators are present during all sessions to provide assistance and support. Most programs are housed in a separate classroom designated specifically for Schools of Hope.
